Contralateral local anesthesia for the treatment of postamputation pain
pp. 107-109
Abstract
Chronic pain originating in the peripheral nervous system can be successfully treated with local anesthesia if the local anesthetic is applied to the origin of peripheral nervous irritation (i. e., scars, local chronic inflammation) or regionally to the autonomic nervous system. When pain relief outlasts the effect of the local anesthetic, often by weeks or months, we speak of therapeutic local anesthesia [2].
