Synopsis and critical remarks

pp. 223-239

Abstract

A synopsis of the contributions contained in this volume seems to be indicated for several reasons: (1) the contributions in this volume are heterogeneous. (2) There are no established "schools of thought" in the field of psychopathology and philosophy. (3) Philosophers, psychologists, and psychiatrists may each need a somewhat bigger picture in order to make sense out of the various lines of thought offered in this volume. (4) Furthermore, it is not always self-evident what kind of problems are addressed by each contributor and how the proposed solutions are related to clinical practice. We will try to approach some of these issues by, first, providing a general conceptual framework of possible relations between philosophy and psychopathology, and second, by commenting on what may be regarded as some common threads that can be found in the articles, specifically aspects relating to certain features of experience, of rationality, of the self, and of schizophrenia.
